Plant Deities Series
There is also a series in creation called Plant Deities. This series consists of five large paintings (118 x 78cm) each depicting one flower that is highlighted by an bronze and gold areola. Akin to religious sculptures of saints in the Christian church. Again each painting is visual affirmation of that plants symbolism.
Beyond the artworks available here, her practice weaves together symbolism and texture: flowers become affirmations (Plant Deities), petals turn into whispered mantras, and every layered stroke invites touch.
Her style is a dance between reverence and irreverence. The background is painted without a clear final painting. The plant in question is painted over several weeks and glazed in a gold halo at the end. This way it is a calm and soothing painting, with lots of greens and blue in the day time. While the gold shimmers at night while you walk past it in low light. Leaving only the silhouette of the painting defined by the gold. The paintings shift with the light, the room, the viewer. In morning sun, they glow with warmth; by evening, they hum with introspection. They hold space for contradictions: the sacred and the handmade, tradition and mischief.
