Blue Emperor is the name of these beautifully painted shells by the artist Negar Rashidi. The shells are open and resemble the wings of a butterfly. Negar playfully accentuates this further by painting butterfly wings on the shell. Each shell has a wing painted in cobalt blue, better known as Delft Blue. She painted the wings of a morpho or emperor butterfly, an unusual type of butterfly with blue wings. The Blue Emperor is mostly found in South America. This is a playful and delightful piece of art that draws on the history of Chinese porcelain, Delft Blue pottery and connects shapes and similarities to now encompass South America.
